Kilkenny Castle Parklands has been named as the top free Irish attraction in 2018, with over 799,032 people pouring through the gates.
The castle featured on Fáilte Ireland’s Visitor Attractions Survey which revealed the top locations around the country that received the most visitors last year.
The comprehensive list was divided into most popular fee-paying and free attractions that people visited.
The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin topped the fee-paying list, with the iconic brewery bringing in an incredible 1,736,156 visitors in 2018.
In the ‘free to enter’ category, The National Gallery of Ireland and National Botanic Gardens in Dublin, Glendalough site in Wicklow and Castletown House Parklands in Kildare all featured in the top five along with Kilkenny Castle.
In tenth place was the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre in Meath, which was a new addition to the list, with 355,608 visitors.
