The Dutch native, who moved to Ireland just a year ago, says the best thing about her profession is helping people create unforgettable memories – and sometimes, even making the impossible, possible.
Indeed, her life motto is ‘if you can dream, it you can do it,’ made famous by perhaps the greatest dreamer of all, Walt Disney.
Ellen applies this to everything she does in her profession – even if it’s something that’s never been done before (like the time a devoted mum asked her to conjure up a holiday for her son based on the movie Coco – made possible by equal parts research, passion and imagination).
A former banker, Ellen threw in the towel to pursue her dream career in the travel industry – but it took getting very real with herself to come to that crucial decision.
Acknowledging that the financial world was no longer serving her – and that the accompanying burnout wasn’t doing any wonders for her health either – Ellen set her sights on the travel sector, something she had always been passionate about.
‘Travel was always my passion but I didn’t want to work in a traditional agency from 9-5 so I began my career in hotel management and then moved on to banking,’ Ellen tells EVOKE.ie
‘I learned a lot at the bank and of course it gave me financial independence but if it thought me anything, it’s that I had to pursue something that I really loved and that ultimately, the financial industry wasn’t for me.’
