Former world champion Neil Robertson beat Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien 6-3 at the Snooker International Championship second round in China.
The Aussie, who has lost Judd Trump 8-10 in the 2012 International Championship final, led 3-1 at the interval, scoring a break of 65 in the fourth frame.
World number four then completed a comfortable 6-3 victory with runs of 65, 58 and 84 in the ninth frame despite a fine 96 by O’Brien in the eighth frame.
Dott, who has reached the 2013 semi-final, scored solid breaks of 68, 62, 68 and 80, to beat once again his 2006 World Snooker Championship final match opponent.
But it was Day who held the pressure in the decider winning the final frame to book a spot in the last 16 against David Gilbert.
World number one Mark Selby stormed into the second round, defeating Anthony McGill 6-1 with runs of- 90, 57, 72 and a fantastic 115 in the last frame to book a place in the last 16 against Michael White.
