Mark is defiantly the most popular name in the snooker tour and it was a matter of time until a Marks mix up occurs.
Welsh snooker star and former world champion Mark Williams had informed he would be receiving Leicester’s Mark Selby‘s UK Championship winning cheque.
Informed by the message: “Dear Mark, UK Championship 2016, we advise that the prize money for the above event will be in your account by Friday December 9, 2016.”
Mark Williams tweeted after receiving the message: This was a nice little bonus for me.”
The Jester from Leicester earned £165,750 for winning the UK Championship beating Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-7 last weekend.
But a mix up of the two Marks had led World Snooker, the sport’s governing body, inform Williams that the money would be in his account by tomorrow instead of that of the reigning world champion.
Ivan Hirschowitz, of World Snooker, clarified the situation to the Leicester Mercury today.
He said: “The e-mail sent to Mark was an administrative error which was quickly corrected.
“No prize money was actually paid in error.”
