Four-time world champion John Higgins eases to Shanghai Masters second round after defeating China’s #2 Liang Wenbo in the first round match.
Higgins, who has won the Shanghai Masters in 2012 after beating Judd Trump 10-9 in the final, maintained his positive snooker form this season with a fine triumph against world #21.
The Scotsman stormed into the match winning the first four frames including breaks of 65 and 56, to stand one frame away from the Shanghai Masters second round.
Wenbo got on the board after winning the fifth frame, but The Wizard of Wishaw sealed it winning the sixth frame and the match.
Like Higgins, Gould claimed the first four frames of the match scoring breaks of 109 and 52, before Hawkins won his first and only frame.
The world #27 has already played five times in the Shanghai Masters but never managed to cross the second round.
Earlier this season Higgins beat Gould 9-8 in the Australian Goldfields Open final after a thriller in Bendigo.
